Katherine Peterson, Ph.D. is a licensed educational psychologist with a strong background in psychoeducational assessment, educational consultation and counseling. Using a combination of interviews, observations, and standardized testing, she identifies a child's unique learning style and strives to help the family and the student understand and appreciate relative strengths and weaknesses. Her specialties include the diagnosis of learning disabilities/disorders, social and emotional problems, behavioral challenges, ADHD, and giftedness. Services also include parent consultation and student counseling regarding these issues.

Dr. Peterson's experience as a credentialed school psychologist and school administrator in the Bay Area yields a valuable perspective regarding Special Education and other types of supports and accommodations available within the schools, both public and private. She understands both the school and the family's perspectives, while keeping in mind that the child's attitude towards learning and sense of self are primary. She is knowledgeable about testing accommodations and various supports available for students with learning differences in both the public and private school settings.

As a school psychologist and administrator, Dr. Peterson successfully implemented school-wide Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs to enhance students' overall well-being. Using SEL curriculum and creative techniques such as "Open Session" and mindfulness exercises, she partners with parents and teachers to help students learn to manage their emotions, resolve conflicts, and make responsible decisions.

Dr. Peterson received her Bachelor's degree in psychology from Princeton University where she was a Division I athlete. She earned her Master's and Doctorate degrees in Education from UC Berkeley focusing on Mindset Psychology and implementing the work of Carol Dweck with young children.

She lives in Menlo Park with her husband and daughter and when she is not practicing, she enjoys running, swimming, skiing, cheering for the Packers, and spending time with her family and friends.
